Drywall, a type of board made out of gypsum, has become one of the most commonly used building materials in North America. It’s inexpensive, and installation is both relatively simple and speedy. That’s because drywall is made out of two different components, a gypsum based joint compound called “mud” and a type of paper in which the drywall is encased.

That means painters need to be careful about how much paint they apply; if they apply the same amount to every region, the paint will look more faded on the paper, and more apparent on the joints. That means the joints and areas where screws were used will show in your wall; not an appealing look! Drywall finishing is graded from 0 to 5; a zero has no finish, while a 5 has the best finish possible. A 5 can be painted over without any problems, because of a technique called skim coating; before your drywall is painted, we can skim coat it in order to get the drywall to a 5.
